TROJKA – Strobemørke

Norwegian prog-pop rockers Trojka is a rather engaging and entertaining musical experience and an entity that brings a certain warmth and humor to its eclectic brand of music. Quirky is certainly one word that comes into play here, and the great thing about this Bergen-based outfit is that these chaps have a sound, style, and musical identity of their own. It feels progressive yet it also comes across as raw and unfiltered somehow, which is not to say that it lacks anything in terms of sonic qualities nor is it sloppy and unfocused for that matter; rather, it is an original-sounding piece of work with a delightfully crunchy edge to it.

While the record is solid and cohesive it rarely delivers anything that is truly remarkable and there are undoubtedly more stimulating and catchy offerings out there if you are on the lookout for something adventurous and different. Regardless, this third album of theirs is a worthwhile listen and one that conjures up an uplifting vibe and works a bit like a charming little spell – something that we could all do with in this day and age.
