The Passion, the flood, the decision to accept it flow through, is mundane. Not a miracle. Glorified narcissism; not a sign of holy modesty. Mere acceptance of survival instinct is no base for more than 2000 years of colonialist power, oppression and soul enslavement. No Gods, No Masters. No.
Glacial Mass is the doom ambient child of Themis, mostly known for his dark ambient work through the last two decades, operating under the name Θ (theta). Through his path, Themis has released a large amount of works in most relevant dark ambient labels. Notable collaborations are with cross fielders: PSYWARFARE (Dwid Hellion of Integrity), Spitpile (of Agoraphobic Nosebleed), dark ambient noise legends: Gruntsplatter, Envenomist, Contagious Orgasm, En Nihil, Alexander Rishaug and Fecalove, as well as soundscapes for bands (Tau Cross, Warr//plague) and film (silent film L’Inferno, documentary Sound the Alarm and Brazilian horror moves). Yet the doom and crusty punk background never let this building. This revisits his past in playing bass in bands after a 20 year break, together with Manos, his friend from childhood, and amazing drummer. In Glacial Mass, the sound is built with focus on passion; eight-string bass guitar, 66.6 bpm, distressed vocals, tube amps at the verge of distraction and deep drumming from the depths of the abyss. The result is desolate, arctic, universally distant, and soul-capturing. If you have demons that you haven’t confronted yet, listen to Glacial Mass dressed in your strongest armour. The abyss will look back.
Glacial Mass is Themis and Manos. Recorded and mixed in Tromsø, Arctic Norway and Panorama, Northern Greece, around Easter 2021. Mastered by Manos G.
