FOLLOWING THE SIGNS – Conflictions

Cork natives Following the Signs released this groove-laden, pummeling offering of theirs just a few days ago, and it turned out to be a rather interesting and cool listen packed to the rafters with juicy riffs, crushing breakdowns, and some inspired vocals. Although it would be easy to compare the atmosphere and aura of these guys’ musical exploits to Lamb of God, there is something about them that appeals to me and sets them slightly apart from so many other modern metal bands and metalcore outfits, which probably has something to do with the subtly brooding tone of the record that is so perfectly exemplified by dark and engaging tracks ala ‘Falling’, ‘Alone’, ‘Escape’, and ‘Dogma’. Another highlight is the concise and punchy ‘Turn to Stone’, which is a magnificently raging and forceful tune displaying lots of enthusiasm and aggression, and there are several others just like that one to be found and enjoyed here.
Conflictions may not be a staggeringly brilliant record but it sure is confident and promising stuff, and the group’s hefty and accessible compositions deserve to reach a wider audience.
