New Single ‘Strangers’ From South African Rock Powerhouse Jackson Colt
Jackson Colt ‘Strangers’ – review by Asher Locketz and is awarded a rating of 5 out of 6 stars
If you crave the heyday of 80’s hair metal, then Jackson Colt has you covered in the form of his upcoming single, the scintillating, infectious and rousing ‘Strangers’. This soaring piece of sonic wildfire is a paean to the uplifting and blissful bluster plied by legends such as Dokken, Poison and Motley Crew. With frontman Jackson Colt on vocals and guitar, alongside Dean Gerber on Bass & Backing Vocals, Matthew Safi on Drums, and Piet Snyman on Guitar & Backing Vocals, this quartet conjure forth stadium sized Rock that bristles with blissful choruses and viciously disarming verses. Beginning with the refrain “Strangers, let’s go!” one is strapped into a rollicking rollercoaster of a track built upon a bedrock of mammoth, melodic riffs, pounding drums, soaring vocals, and sparkling song craft that hurtles forth at a ferociously catchy pace.
With verses that pop and fizzle with thudding bass and a chorus that explodes into a supernova of sparkling incandescence ‘’Strangers’’ brings to mind the lights, luminosity and neon lit streets of Los Angeles at night where patrons stagger about in the grip of hedonism. The lyrical subject matter centres upon finding one’s soulmate in the existential sprawl that is life and are woven into the tapestry of this track with aplomb. As Jackson Colt opines “A fallen angel, wings ripped and torn. She’s running from the love that she can’t take it anymore, no” in the first verse it is clear this song wears it’s 80’s rock influences on its proverbial sleeve. Housed in a robust and crystalline production courtesy of Dale Schnettler (from South African Rock Powerhouse Prime Circle fame), this arena sized slab of sizzling Rock is primed to set the airwaves ablaze with vigour.
Jackson Colt Bio
For live shows, bassist Dean, drummer Matthew and rhythm guitarist Piet bring a high energy performance in reminiscence of those 80’s Arena Rock bands. Each member brings their own personality to the stage, all coming from different musical backgrounds. Grinding on the underground circuit, the band learned to hone their craft. The band has also enjoyed playing the Soweto Towers on Halloween, multiple Speedo-Fests and frequent gigs with friends Black Cat Bones and Jasper Dan. After gigging relentlessly through the harsh lockdown and sharing the stage with several big names in South African Rock, Jackson Colt is currently recording his debut album with Dale Schnettler of Prime Circle. Jackson cites Dale as a big inspiration to his music career. The first concert Jackson ever attended was a Prime Circle show when he was young. There he met Dale who signed some drumsticks for Jackson and his brother. Many years later, they would meet again and work on the debut album together.
Jackson has achieved great success within the Mix FM SA Top 40, with Echoes reaching Number 1 for two consecutive weeks and number 2 for 3 weeks. Handpicked by Darren Scott, Jackson Colt was chosen to play at Darren’s Farewell Party and reached number 2 for the end of the year Top 40 of 2022. Currently, Jackson is working on a full-length debut album to be released in 2023. The 14-track album combines the Classic Rock sound with some modern influences.
