KEOPS – Road to Perdition

Somewhere between classic heavy metal, power metal, and 90s-inspired groove metal you will find Road to Perdition by the Croatian outfit named Keops. Given that it came out all the way back in March, we shall keep things short and concise here. The eleven compositions that constitute the LP are musically diverse and melodically strong pieces that contain plenty of cool twists and clever arrangements while rarely losing their sense of direction. There is a subtle sense of melancholy to the proceedings, and it sounds and feels as if these gentlemen have poured their hearts into the material, which is nicely illustrated by ‘Restless Waves’, ‘My Soul…Released’, and the dazzling title track. Although a beefier production would have added a little more crunch and power to the overall presentation, this is a well-composed offering that is both epic and catchy. Apart from a couple of uneventful tunes rearing their heads toward the end, Keops keep things interesting throughout. Well worth a dozen of spins.
