Truly it has been some time since I’ve heard something that opens that “doggone this is some excellent Gothenburg melodeath” drawer and these Aussies came out just in time with their 2nd EP (after “Buried Beneath”²⁰¹⁶ EP and “Fading Cinders”²⁰¹⁸ LP), “Darkness Of Now”. The drawer opens already on the first track which is the finest of the four, “Creators Of Our Own Demise”. Not only do Fall And Resist consisting of Liam “Frosty” Frost-Camilleri (guitars, vocals), Brendon Bradbury (guitars, backing vocals), Rory (bass) and Benito Martino (drums) present a stellar example of the beloved stylings known from Dark Tranquillity’s “The Gallery” or In Flames’ “Jester Race” (the latter btw. totally fully and finally back in their own skin with their recent singles) but their attention to detail in the epic intro/outro made me instantly aware of how good these guys can be, something a little less impressive but still enjoyable on the closing “As It All Starts To Fray”. Add to this the absolutely crushingly heavy guitar riffs and you have yourself a little classic, right?

Well, not quite. The remaining “Nothing But Pain” and “Transient Forgiveness” don’t quite match these wonderful aspects which are true of the opener. Especially the latter just steamrolls through with barely any thought to melody or hooks, such a shame, with such triumphant and spectacular beginning!

Given that these guys are fairly new (2016 birth year) I do have high hopes, though, and am sure their next offering will both deserve and elicit praises from me.
