THE TRONOSONIC EXPERIENCE – The Shadow Vol. II

Oh man, this 6-track sequel to “The Shadow Vol. I” is just as playful, unpredictable, and immersive as its predecessor was, and this Norwegian jazz prog/avantgarde rock outfit simply rules beyond belief. Their spirited take on all things forward-thinking is inspired, and these gentlemen sure know how to keep the listener entertained and en­gaged throughout thanks to their unique ability move effortlessly from one end of the spectrum to the other. In other words, things shift from tranquil to abstract and further on to hard-hitting and absolutely mental. To some extent, “Vol. II” struck me as being slightly more meditative and melan­choly than “Vol. I” but it is as diverse and eclectic as one could have hoped for and a bloody marvelous sequel (or second half of a larger piece of work, if you will). Jazz prog, noise, avantgarde rock – I am not even sure how to label or classify this exceptional disc, but what I do know is that you need this 34-minute gem in your collection. This one totally made my day today and if you want surreal atmospheres then “The Shadow Vol. II” provides just that.
