The Spanish squadron known as Muert will soon unleash the utterly chaotic and completely unhinged opus titled “Haeresis”, and there is a lot for you to look forward to here if grinding black metal madness from the wrong side of the tracks appeals to you.

As evidenced by the maniacal vocals and the onslaught of pummeling riffs, these fuckers mean business and are clearly out to destroy each and every thing in sight. It is tempting to compare Muert to such acts and outfits as Blasphemy, Conqueror, Revenge, Black Witchery, Archgoat, and Beherit, but Muert’s brand of violent, apocalyptic metal is neither as impenetrable nor unintelligible as some of the aforementioned groups’ sonic outputs are. Vicious, pounding, and relentlessly aggressive but not without its fair share of crushing mid-tempo passages and relatively slow, morbid sequences that will creep you out, “Haeresis” has a lot going for it, and I must say that I find it perversely appealing. However, I will also be the first to admit that the album does require quite a bit from the listener, or rather this particular listener as I really need to be in the mood for something as intense and pulverizing as this eight-track assault in order to absorb what is going on and truly appreciate the lunatic genius of tunes such as “Metal ¡Enajenación!”, “Axantemir”, “¡La Niña de las Peras!”, and my personal favorite “Las Brujas del Bailadero de Anaga”. But I can tell you that on a foul day such as this one it simply works wonders for my mind.

Those of you who love and cherish raw, unfiltered black metal insanity performed with authority and conviction should check “Haeresis” out. It might not be outstanding or a stone cold classic but believe me when I say that it gets the job done and that it is solid and well-executed from beginning to end.
