ABYSMALIST – Reflections Of Horror

The death metal duo of two San Francisco Bay Area (Sacramento) punk, metal, and hardcore veterans, Jeremy Meier (drums, vocals) and Federico Avila (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, production, mastering), just released their first demo, "Reflections Of Horror", lyrically soaked in Clive Barker, Patrick Süskind, and "romantic" horror/fabulism, musically, very strongly Obituary-ian with hints of death metal side of the Peaceville Trinity (Anathema, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost).
Three tracks of strong, confident riffing, structures and melody, plus an instrumental surprisingly something Crowbar or Pantera would sandwitch in between their hard hitting numbers. Very good stuff, particularly skillful balance of brutality and more atmospheric/climactic doomy passages. It all bodes well for the debut album but let’s strive for more original sound next time.
