PORN – The Ogre Inside
The sickening industrial metal outfit known as PORN (brilliant name, eh?) have returned from beyond the barren fields of human waste and graced us with yet another full-length assault, this time their third such cursed opus. Inspired by the works of the infamous Aleister Crowley, Porn takes us through the darkest recesses of the human mind and kind of just leaves us hanging there.
The nine tunes that constitute "The Ogre Inside" range from ceremonial and grand to morose and introspective. While the music is primarily rooted in industrial metal, or industrial rock, if you will, there are strong traces of goth rock and goth metal scattered throughout the album as well, but "The Ogre Inside" never really turns into something too pompous, cheesy, clicheed as so many similar outfits do.
The songs are generally quite catchy and there a of cool nuances and wicked details to absorb and digest in places. The vocals might be a bit hit-or-miss depending on one’s personal taste, but to me they go hand in hand with the music nicely and deliver the lyrics with passion. In addition, the album boasts a strong production. Check this interesting, dramatic, and varied piece of work out if electronic, industrial, or experimental music appeals to you. There is a lot of good stuff on this disc.
