IN AEVUM AGERE – From the Depth of Soul

The Italian doom metal outfit named In Aevum Agere recently re-released this 2007 demo opus of theirs entitled "From the Depth of Soul" albeit in remastered form and including a pretty decent bonus track. So far, so good. Strong melodies, crushing riffs, melancholy, and a foreboding sense of doom and despair are what is on offer here.

In Aevum Agere is very much a traditional doom metal band in that it is neither experimental nor original as such, but this 7-track output is a solid and engaging piece of work that brings to mind great acts such as Candlemass, Black Sabbath, and Memento Mori. The dramatic vocals suit the song material nicely and the band keeps the momentum going from start to finish.

The guitar solos are memorable too, which is definitely a plus. The sound of the demo is warm and organic, just as it ought to be when dealing with old-school doom metal. The truth is that I actually prefer this demo of theirs to some of their later releases, but maybe that is just me. Either way, if you are looking for a decent and gloomy soundtrack to match your foul November mood, give "From the Depth of Soul" a spin or two.
