Taking their time issuing full-lengths on a four to five-year basis, Italian melodic death/thrash metal quintet Algol enter the critical third album juncture in one’s career with "Mindfr@mes". A unique approach in terms of bright tones for keyboards against the cascading guitar riffs, songs such as "The Believer, The Agonistic, and the Brutal Truth" and the Opeth meets Voivod-esque "Ego Shield" bristle with impressive energy and pacing. The cat and mouse chase sequences lead up to interesting twin harmonies for "The Outsider", as bassist Alessandro Manta supplements the proceedings through his dark growls and provocative screams.
A proper mix of the Swede-death style greatness along with a love of Mercenary and Opeth makes "Mindfr@ames" a highly entertaining, ten track metal record – never lacking in substance or execution.
