DREAMING DEAD – Funeral Twilight

DREAMING DEAD – Funeral Twilight

Funeral Twilight is the third full-length opus from LA powerhouse Dreaming Dead.  Members include front-woman Elizabeth Schall (some of you out there might be familiar of her work with death/grinders Cretin). The first thing that hits the listener is the production – really warm and crisp, this brings out the melodic properties, while simultaneously harnessing the power. Since all of the members have many different releases out there (often with fellow Dreaming Death members) they all know how to construct a song and handle themselves in the studio and this experience is immediately apparent too.

Dreaming Death specialise in pacy melodic death metal. All of the songs on offer have their moments, with some especially memorable parts in  the opener and title track, both of which reach a height unequalled for the rest of the album. The slower sections all rock too, suggesting that these really would be a good band to see live. However, the noticeable dip in quality after the first few tracks drags the overall score down somewhat. Still, this is a strong release for fans of the genre and definitely a band to follow for the future.
