Formed in 2006 out of the remnants of Mörk Gryning, this is a Swedish unit intent on being as equally intriguing as it is modern when it comes to their progressive death metal style. C.B. Murdoc on their second album "Here Be Dragons" delivers an 11 track caustic, frantic body blow in musical form – unrelenting screams, twisted guitar patterns, and a rhythm section quick to go from groove to blast and back again.
Between the raw snare hits, djent aspects, and overall technical musicianship on display, you worry about continuity – but these musicians always manage to inject the right hooks at the right times for retention. Check out the scattershot "Nonplus Ultra" and relatively controlled "Diamonds" for two winners on this 52-minute outing. Lovers of cross-pollination genres, where Between the Buried and Me and Decapitated careen into Gojira and Meshuggah will devour C.B. Murdoc and "Here Be Dragons" – breathing fire at every twist and turn.
