INQUISITION – Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith
I usually love everything by Inquisition. I love the down-tuned otherworldly drone, the hell-frog vocal croak the cosmic abyssal horror and the pure originality of the band. Having said that, this seventh full-length doesn’t do much for me. Yes, it sounds like classic Inquisition but this time the charisma seems to be lacking. The dark groove is not to be found. The songs don’t draw me in and hypnotise me the way they did on other records. On top of that, the unvarying blast style that we met on their last record is reprised here and grates just as much. Ok, there are moments here and there, flashes of black flame that recall the former glory, but ultimately, this is only for the hardcore fans. All others should check out the rereleases from SOM to see what this band can really do.
