MOONSORROW – Jumalten Aika

MOONSORROW – Jumalten Aika

I find it strange that it has been 5 years since the release of "Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa", as this album still rotates in my ears on a weekly basis, and I still absolutely love every minute of it. I’m also one of the maniacs who purchased the "Heritage" vinyl box set in 2014, 14-LPs, the largest metal box set of all-time, containing nearly 8 hours of music on heavyweight 200-gram audiophile virgin vinyl LPs… (My precious…) Moonsorrow also figures on my top 5 live-music experiences ever, at Karmøygeddon metal festival back in 2011, a total out-of-body experience. You might say I’m a fan. So please bear with me…

"Jumalten Aika" kicks off with the title track, clocking in at 12:43, and as with every Moonsorrow song, it’s an epic, melodic and atmospheric journey, close your eyes and you are back to nature and ancient times. "Ruttolehto incl. Päivättömän päivän kansa" starts with chanting, and then kicks into fast paced black metal, still with the familiar Moonsorrow sound intact. And again, epic. EPIC! «Suden Tunti», at «only» 7 minutes, continues the journey, another typical Moonsorrow song, with its extremely catchy riffing, a raise your horn and drink type of song. Closing tracks "Mimisbrunn" and "Ihmisen aika (Kumarrus pimeyteen)", a more than 30 minutes epic voyage, showcasing everything Moonsorow are made off and simply just stunning and difficult to explain with words. I close my eyes, leave this pathetic modern world for a while, and drift away to another place and another time…
