ATOMWINTER – Iron Flesh

Doomy style death metal from Germany’s Atomwinter, "Iron Flesh" is their second full-length since their inception in 2010. Expect a number of swinging riffs, killer grooves/tempos, and dual growls/ screams that remind of me of classic Asphyx and Bolt Thrower with Obituary and even the evilness of early Black Sabbath on their sonic radar screen.
There’s something mind numbing and intense as hearing certain slow chords ring out within "Silencer" or "Bloodcult" that makes you think you are marching for battle, the low tuned madness lingering in the air. Illegible logo, raw production values, primitive songwriting – Atomwinter are old school to the bone, and "Iron Flesh" seeps into your brain as a reminder of what death metal should be about: brutality, execution, and impressive songs. 31 minutes pass and the seas churn for more slow chaos – "Iron Flesh" proves you don’t have to be intricate and technical to achieve heaviness in this genre.
