SATHANAS – Worship the Devil

The US black/death act Sathanas seems to have been around forever as I remember coming across the name in various underground metal publications 14-15 years ago. Time fucking flies. Anyway, it turns out that Sathanas have been lurking in the underground for 25 years now, spreading their raw, dark, vile, and brutal metal to the hungering freaks out there.
«Worship the Devil» contains 8 dark hymns that are all quite catchy, powerful, and sinister. They have an unholy energy to them that is quite captivating, and the countless sharp and thrashy riffs that are scattered throughout just makes me cherish this damn record even more. I would argue that «Worship the Devil» not only appeals to fans of blackened death metal, but also crushingly heavy thrash metal. As to the sound and production, the album is outrageously heavy but with a nicely raw edge to it. However, I am not a fan of the drum sound as it sounds slightly clinical and sterile in places, but that does not detract from the fact that we are dealing with a great slab of punishing and intense metal here. Not convinced yet? Well, fuck you! Just listen to the closing track «Black Paths of Devilry» and how morbidly dark, moody, and great that song is. That ought to convince you!
Whether you are into bands such as Destroyer 666 and Nifelheim or Sodom and Celtic Frost, I dare say that «Worship the Devil» will appeal to your sorry ass. Support Sathanas, damn it!
