The second full-length album from California death/thrash quartet Madrost, "Into the Aquatic Sector" is a 27 minute effort that cross over Bay Area fury a la Dark Angel and Forbidden with strains of blast beat death and maybe a little technicality of the new breed of metal. Guitarist Tanner Poppitt’s opening screams for "Frozen beneath the Snow" are very similar to Tom Araya, while he and fellow axe master Alejandro Pelaez race up and down the fret board aggressively throughout winners such as "Universal Energy" and "Depravity".
Meat and potatoes oriented death/thrash, good to warm up the underground, Madrost assault the listener from all aural directions. Brace yourself, "Into the Aquatic Sector" plunges deep and doesn’t relent- and there are many who miss those aspects in metal.
