INCANTATION – Dirges of Elysium

The mighty Incantation (US) are back again! These death metal giants never surrender to any trends or triggered technology what so ever. They just keep churning out pure old school lethal death metal the way it should be.
With main man McEntee have kept the infernal death metal torch burning since 1989 and "Dirges of Elysium" is their tenth full-length since their deadly but classic debut "Onward to Golgotha" back in 1992.
Incantaion is among the forefathers of the think we call true death metal and they never seem to let go. Their music is ugly, dark and just perfect.
Chrushing riffs once again dominate their 10´th opus and McEntee´s vocal seems as vicous as ever. The production is murk, but smooth crisp to get ahold of all the intricate riffing buried down in the massive drumming. Kyle does a formidable job of holding this organized chaos in his grip and he adds some really cool fills among the mandatory blasting.
Another high point is the arrangements that makes each song take it´s own direction and stay unique. There´s a lot of doomier parts here (something Incantation is now very famous for) and the slower parts is just gory black stains on the overall impression. True evil is achieved.
Personally I just can´t enough Incantaion and they still need to prove they can make a weak album. You know what you get when Incatation occupies your ear space.
My expectations where of course met once again, "Dirges of Elysium" is another nail in the death metal coffin Incantation started building some 25 years ago and still can call their own. Recommended for those who really values the atmosphere in death metal.
