WISDOM – Marching For Liberty

Holy power metal with obvious reference points! Welcome to the Hungarian quintet Wisdom, active since 2001 and on their third album "Marching for Liberty". The 12 songs are chock full of speedy tandem guitar runs full of cultural harmony, persistent double bass, and multi-part choruses designed for audience participation. Freedom Call, Gamma Ray, Helloween, and Edguy would be so proud to hear their discography liberally dissected and reconstructed in tracks like "Dust of the Sun", "The Martyr", and "My Fairytale" among others.
Vocalist Gabor Nagy could be a dead ringer for Tobias Sammet- often adding a little bit of Graham Bonnet inflection in his lower range. Problem is, Wisdom struggles to attain any originality or identity beyond German power metal. So if you enjoy a carbon copy of the power metal template, "Marching For Liberty" delivers on all accounts. As for me, I’ll stick to the innovators, thank you.
