Portland, Oregon’s Diesto release their fifth full length album in 10 years with "For Water or Blood". A doom/ stoner metal oriented quartet, expect material that drives itself off the giant riff- often accenting jam-worthy instrumental sections and vocals that are melancholy and morose. Mark Bassett and Chris Dunn perform double duty as they also handle microphone duties, grabbing earthy visions of psychedelic singing in "Trail to the Sun" and appropriately distant for the lumbering "Adrift at Sea".
The rhythm section of bassist Rusty Powers and drummer Devon Christian Shirley propels the progressive parts of "Sirens" and closer "Arrows" – as elements of Rush and Tool come into focus, augmenting a very strong throwback doom/ stoner foundation. At 7 songs and 47 minutes, "For Water or Blood" succeeds in the long run because Diesto always reach for the best transition or key into the ‘less is more’ approach- allowing arrangements time to breathe and riffs to reach maximum cranium payoff.
