CLAYMORDS – Scum of the Earth

Defining Claymords by genre is quite a difficult task. On the face of it they are probably best described as melodic death metal with progressive thrash leanings. Whatever the exact mix, it is a recipe that produces something original and accessible to these ears. For the past few years bands have been getting better and better at genre hopping and Claymords are masters of the form, combining elements in such a way that "Scum of the Earth" has an instantly digestible style that will appeal to fans of many different branches of metal.

The musicianship is great too – the drums forming a steady battery behind a wall of guitars that are equally comfortable laying down rocking grooves and pyrotechnic solos. A clear, modern production means very little gets lost on the way from the studio to your ears and any moments of power and speed retain maximum impact.

Overall, "Scum of the Earth" showcases the work of an act who know what they want and who can knock out the tunes with ease and confidence. I just wish they had this on the duke-box in my local…
