SCARLATYNA – Till The End

A re-release of two early 1990’s demos, “Till The End” consists of 7 songs of power/progressive metal from this German band. Vocalist Chris J. Marino hits Alan Tecchio-like falsetto siren wails on “Wings Of The Night” which may thrill some and irritate others. Musically I would compare some of the compositions like “The Tower” and “We” to early Queensryche, Heir Apparent and others in that ilk who took the roots of British metal into a more powerful though no less melodic direction.
Maybe a good document for the ardent collector, Scarlatyna have recently reformed- so I’m curious to hear what the band sounds like in 2011. Demo quality production and technically proficient chops abound, but the erratic, overbearing vocals lose a lot of luster for me.
