Are there words in the English language that are able to do justice to this song, this song that contains everything, EVERYTHING, everything that I like about music?
You know this certain feeling, you feel it every time you listen to the song but you don’t know which word or words that are most suitable. I have thought and rethought and the only word that I think is somewhat close to my feeling in the moment is probably a word that is not the most obvious when it comes to black metal.
"Diabolus Absconditus" is now unleashed as a M-CD and split-vinyl release together with "Mass Grave Aesthetics". The M-CD’s cover, as you can see here in big size below, is amazing and suits the song perfectly. You know, big, epic and majestic. The song is of course the same as it was when "Crushing The Holy Trinity [Father]" split was unleashed back in 2005. The sound is close to what you could find on "Kénôse".
What kind of feeling(s) is it that Deathspell Omega wanted to reveal by this one track, by these 22+ minutes? I don’t know, but it must be something from the darker side of our emotional range. Personally I don’t feel like smiling or giving my few loved ones a big hug. But I feel ecstasy every single time I listen to "Diabolus Absconditus". I want to relisten and I cannot see why I would need another black metal song, if I had to choose.
But what I really feel when I listen to this creation, is Love! Yes, love. I love the song. I love the lyrics. I love the combination of eeriness, darkness and insanity. I love the way Deathspell Omega show uniqueness and completeness. But most of all I love the emotions that I go through me when the song moves forward.
Love – the goosebumps that moves up and down my spine when God says "You can see for yourself" "I’m God".
Love – the tickling in my stomach when the bass does the devil’s work during the acoustic middle section.
Love – the sensation that runs through my mind when each word is uttered like it is the last word the vocalist ever will sing or speak!
Love – the consciousness that tear my mind apart when I understand what "Monsieur Nonsense is writing and understands that he is mad." actually refers to.
Love – the satisfaction of one-way communication, where the communicator, in this case the song "Diabolus Absconditus", never dissatisfies me.
This may be as non-metal as you could get, but fact is, I simple love "Diabolus Absconditus"! Together with Devil Doll’s "Dies Irae" (one song divided into 16 tracks) and Deathspell Omega’s own "Veritas Diaboli Manet In Aeternum: Chaining The Katechon", this trilogy of long songs makes part of my life complete.
