3 – The Ghost You Gave To Me

Self-proclaimed hybrid act 3 return with their sixth full length studio album, “The Ghost You Gave To Me” continues their heavy, alternative, twisted progressive rock/metal escapades. Most of the compositions are shorter and compact, yet still pack an instrumental deluge of parts and energy that will take numerous playbacks to fully comprehend. In their early years the Coheed and Cambria comparisons may have been relevant, but not anymore. A ballad like “One With The Sun” combines King’s X, The Beatles (Sgt. Pepper’s era) with Pink Floyd and Fair To Midland, brilliant acoustic lines and soloing.
The free flowing clean/distortion guitar passion throughout “Afterglow” and the quieter yet still alluring “React” are my personal favorites. Glad to see even through industry turmoil, 3 prove why progressive music is innovative and vital for survival.
