SECTU – Inundate

Pummeling Swedish death metal on this debut album from the quartet Sectu. Searing leads, punishing blast beats given reprieve with slower, more brooding riff work. Songs like “Storms” and “Dream Vessel” appear to have more in common with the American approach a la Morbid Angel meets Death than the Gothenburg or Stockholm stock sound. At times you get the feeling it’s a little too clinical and not possessing that hook factor still necessary to capture an audience beyond a few cursory glances.

Maybe they need another album to find themselves, for now “Inundate” is for the indiscriminate death head who needs to own everything in the genre.
