Technical jazz-death metal pioneers ATHEIST and OKKULTOKRATI, Norwegian dirty punk metal joins the INFERNO 2011 line up with IMMORTAL, AURA NOIR, PENTAGRAM, SOILENT GREEN, MALEVOLENT CREATION and ALCEST. The 2011 edition of INFERNO will be dark and loud, blasting extreme metal for four unholy days!
ATHEIST – masters of technical death metal! One of the most groundbreaking and influential metal bands ever, the legendary ATHEIST formed in Florida, 1984. The band combined metal riffs with subtle latin music arrangements and jazz fusion. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, this band, alongside fellow Floridians Death and Cynic, handcrafted the sub-genre that spawned bands such as Meshuggah, Between The Buried And Me, and Mudvayne. The debut album "Piece of Time"(1988) and second album "Unquestionable Presence" (1991) has become classics and also reference albums of the technical death genre. After several break-ups and reunions the band reunited in ‘06 to bring their unique and progressive music to a new generation of fans. Among a handful of special dates was a performance at the legendary Wacken Open Air in front of 60,000 screaming fans which inspired the band to start work on their new album "Jupiter", the first in 17 years. Today the band members are: Chris Baker – Guitar, Kelly Shaefer – vocals, Jonathan Thompson – Guitar, Bass, Steve Flynn – Drums November 9th 2010 ATHEIST will release their new album "Jupiter" – Atheist once again shows technical metal who’s boss. This highly anticipated album is full of dizzying twists and turn. A collection of songs easily as brutal, if not more so, than 1991’s "Unquestionable Presence" which is considered by many to be the alpha album of this extreme style. So prepare for the new and brutal sound of technical death pioneers when ATHEIST hits the INFERNO stage! OKKULTOKRATI – Norwegian dirty punk metal For those who don’t know Okkultokrati, the band consist of members originating from the darkest alleys, thickest woods and highest mountains in Norway. Okkultokrati have been around for a couple of years now and feature members from Haust and Hombre Malo. They play bitter and dirty punk metal drenched in the stench of Poison Idea, Celtic Frost and High on Fire! After their Knarkskog EP from 2009 Okkultokrati they released their debut album "No Light For Mass" earlier this year. This is a collection of songs that has been subjected to over six months of intensive and focused writing, rehearsing and recording. The band was born out of a need to transcend the surface of pointless metal and punk that overflows Norway’s borders. Why just get inspiration from international unholy culture when just outside the living room window you will find the purest horror you can imagine? Both the Norwegian natural landscape and on the outskirts of every city is filled with all kinds of vile pleasures for young creative souls. |
