DOOMSHINE – The Piper at the Gates of Doom

As the name suggests this is a doom metal band. It’s doom in a vein of Solitude Aeturnus, only better in my opinion. It appears to be either a Christian band or a secular one inspired by biblical mythology. The musicianship could rival My Dying Bride, and I don’t write this lightly as MDB is one of my top favorite bands. The atmosphere of "…Piper…" is very disturbing, as though someone has written these tunes right before committing suicide. The riffs and melodies sound fairly original and the production accentuates the sick climate of this creation. One of the better records I’ve heard this year. Oh, and they are also German, but you couldn’t tell by listening to it. If you’re into bands like My Dying Bride, Solitude Aeturnus and Isole, check this out.
