TIDFALL skivene reutgis

Modern black metal is often criticized for adding too much “popular” elements into the genre, such as orchestral and symphonic parts or clean vocals. But the progression of the music is inevitable, same as each band’s personal evolution. Tidfall seems to have found a perfect solution for joining both tradition and modernization – their music easily combines classic, brutal black metal with industrial and symphonic passages, altogether forming a truly breathtaking mixture! Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive re-releases of Tidfall’s two LPs – “Instinct Gate” and “Nucleus” – which prove the group’s status as one of the most promising names in today’s black metal music.

Their second full-length album, “Instinct Gate” (2002), proved to be a black metal masterpiece, joining harsh, death metal vocals with crushing guitars, but also with an almost prog-metal technical precision and symphonic arrangements. No wonder that the group was soon compared to Dimmu Borgir. However, Tidfall offered music that was far more complex and brutal. Reviewers soon begun comparing the band to other acts, such as Old Man’s Child, Lunaris and Hollenthon. The album gained many positive opinions and with such brilliant songs as “My Wrathful Eyes” and the opening “Children of Man”, it proved that black metal was doing more than fine.

The follow-up album, “Nucleus” (2003), was a definite step forward compared to the previous release, and introduced some brand new elements in the group’s style. The first difference came with the atmosphere of the whole LP – much darker and more futuristic than before. Tidfall were never afraid to experiment with the genre and this time they decided to join traditional black metal heaviness with an industrial feel. The result was truly astounding – the band managed to present a modern black metal masterpiece, violent but at the same time well-produced. Reviewers noticed elements similar to such groups as Fear Factory (mostly because of the futuristic opening track – “Future Doom”), …And Oceans and Red Harvest. With “Nucleus”, Tidfall ultimately proved that they’re one of the top bands on the contemporary black metal scene…

Bio
Tidfall was originally formed as Pagan Divinity by the end of 1992 in Lřten, Norway. The line–up consisted of only three members: Abraxas (guitar), Zarthon (drums) and Rogon D. Bloodgraat (vocals). At the beginning they patiently wrote their material, recording songs occasionally and just for their own use. In 1995 the trio decided to extend the band adding Sorg (bass) and Aftaneldr (synths) into the fold, and eventually change their name to Tidfall, which in Norwegian signifies “the fall of time”. In 1996 the group released their first self-titled demo, containing four tracks with Norwegian lyrics. It received some positive feedback on the local scene and got the guys their first record deal proposition, which they eventually dropped, deciding to focus more on getting some proper material written. After a year and a half of intensive rehearsing Tidfall returned with their second demo disc –  “Black Psychotic Darkness”. The 3-track demo (this time with English lyrics) was very well received by the press and the group finally became noticed on the metal map. In 1999 Tidfall got a call from Samoth, the acclaimed musician known from such bands as Emperor, Zyklon, Gorgoroth and Satyricon, and also owner of the record label Nocturnal Art Productions. After a short conversation he managed to convince the group that they found the perfect place for releasing their debut album. In February 2000 Tidfall went to the Akkerhaugen Lydstudio, where under the watchful eye of Torbjørn Akkerhaugen himself they recorded the material for “Circular Supremacy”. The album was released on May 29th, 2000 and instantly won a handful of positive opinions from the European press. Unfortunately no tours followed the release of the debut album and Tidfall soon concentrated on writing new songs for the follow-up. During the writing process, Rogon D. Bloodgraat left the band due to artistic differences. The vocal duties went on to Sorg and the group became a four-piece, but not for long. With the addition of second guitarist Drako Arcane, Tidfall was stronger than ever and ready to conquer the world. In March 2001 they revisited Akkerhaugen Lydstudio, where their second full-length album – “Instinct Gate” – was recorded.
The LP got released in 2002 through Nuclear Blast Records, as Nocturnal Art Productions were unable to give the band proper attention at that time. “Instinct Gate” proved to be a black metal masterpiece, joining harsh, death metal vocals with crushing guitars, but also with an almost prog-metal technical precision and symphonic arrangements. After the release of “Instinct Gate” Tidfall finally went on a promotional tour across Europe. Despite several problems (during this one tour EIGHT buses broke down!), the band still remembers the tour as a great experience.
In late 2002 Tidfall begun working on their third album. The recording session was planned for March 2003 and after three weeks of hard work, the material was ready. Finally, “Nucleus” saw the light of day on August 3rd, 2003. The album was a definite step forward compared to the previous release, and introduced some brand new elements in the group’s style. The first difference came with the atmosphere of the whole LP – much darker and more futuristic than before. Tidfall were never afraid to experiment with the genre and this time they decided to join traditional black metal heaviness with an industrial feel. Although the group is currently put on hold, their releases still electrify listeners all over the world. If for some reason you happened to miss out on this amazing group, “Instinct Gate” and “Nucleus” will bring you back to the glorious years of black metal excellence!
