VIII STRADA – ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK BETWEEN HERITAGE AND THE PRESENT
“Città Totale” – the latest release from the Milan-based progressive rock band
Formed in Milan in 1996, VIII STRADA have been part of the Italian progressive rock scene for three decades, carrying its musical language into the present while constantly looking beyond its boundaries.
Their latest release, “Città Totale”, issued in 2026 by Italian progressive label Ma.Ra.Cash Records, offers a wide-ranging portrait of the band through new music, live performances and their own musical history.
The double album combines two new studio tracks – “Città Totale” and “Quale primavera” – five live recordings, a remastered version of VIII Strada’s debut album “La leggenda della grande porta”, and a special reinterpretation of “Canzone d’Amore” by Le Orme, one of the legendary names of Italian progressive rock.
Rather than simply recreating the classic sound of the 1970s, VIII Strada draw from the tradition of Italian Progressive Rock (RPI) while incorporating a contemporary approach, harder-edged passages and a strong emphasis on dynamics, composition and storytelling.
For VIII Strada, progressive rock remains exactly what its name suggests: music that progresses rather than music that simply reproduces the past.
FROM THE ITALIAN PROG SCENE TO INTERNATIONAL STAGES
Throughout their career, VIII Strada have shared the stage with Arena, Pain of Salvation, Tony Levin, Osanna, Biglietto per l’Inferno and David Jackson of Van der Graaf Generator. The band also developed an eighteen-month live collaboration with Patrizio Fariselli of Area.
On May 22, 2026, VIII Strada opened for Banco del Mutuo Soccorso at Milan’s Legend Club, bringing together two generations of Italian progressive rock on the same stage.

CITTÀ TOTALE
Città Totale works almost as a map of VIII Strada’s musical journey. The new compositions represent the band’s present; the live recordings capture their natural dimension on stage; while the remastered debut reconnects their current identity with the beginning of their story.
Among the highlights is VIII Strada’s personal reinterpretation of “Canzone d’Amore” by Le Orme, one of the landmark bands of Italian progressive rock. Rather than approaching the song as a simple cover, VIII Strada reshape it through their own musical identity, creating a direct connection between the historic Italian prog tradition and the band’s contemporary vision.
The result is more than a conventional new album: for international listeners discovering VIII Strada for the first time, it provides an extensive introduction to the band’s music, evolution and personality.
