The Belgian black metal trailblazers known as Enthroned have been rather prolific since the band’s inception back in 1993, and the remarkable thing about this most unholy and impenetrably dark outfit is that they are getting better and better with time. With that in mind, let us take a closer look at their upcoming musical torrent of flayed skin?
The ritualistic aspects and qualities of their material have been honed and refined over the years, and this upcoming 50-minute sojourn of theirs into all things occult and forbidden clearly illustrates just how far they have come. With precision, confidence, and a frightening sense of authority, the group charges ahead and delivers intensity and dread in equal measure. Relentlessly aggressive yet wholly dynamic and full of brilliant nuances, these nine deftly executed compositions conjure up a perfectly shaped vision of something ominous, which is exemplified by the chilling “Stillborn Litany” and “Raviasamin.” The record as a whole engenders a disturbing, claustrophobic terror in the listener deriving from the music and the lyrics, which is to say that they work in tandem and complement each other throughout, but the massive-sounding sonic structure of the unsettling opus is arguably its greatest strength and one of the primary reasons why it is damn addictive.
Songs such as “Sightless,” “Ashen Advocacy,” and the title track will make your blood vessels explode due to their unforgettable riffs, sick vocals, and almost trance-inducing overtones of menace and evil. What we have here is nothing less than a foreboding musical triumph and a stellar slab of charismatic black metal performed by seasoned veterans.
