ROBIN MCAULEY – Alive

Outstanding singer Robin McAuley is without doubt one of the best and most unique vocalists there is, and it is wonderful to see just how prolific he has been these past few years with Black Swan, Michael Schenker, and his solo career. This follow-up to the excellent Standing on the Edge from 2021 is a fine addition to the great man’s discography and a memorable collection of deftly executed songs. Hard rock with atmosphere, passionate singing, glorious hooks, and plenty of drive seem to sum this inspired work up quite neatly, and McAuley sounds phenomenal on tunes such as ‘Dead as a Bone’ and ‘Feel Like Hell’ where rousing choruses and intoxicating riffs take one back to simpler times. While not as consistently awesome or captivating as its predecessor was, quality shines on this well-produced disc and highlights are many, including the fist-pumping title track and the dark ‘When the Time Has Come’. Definitely one that fans of hard rock should devote some time to.
