GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES – Hail to the Heroes

The Indian hard rockers Girish and the Chronicles have made quite a name for themselves in the scene these past few years, and judging by the quality of this incredibly driven and energetic offering of theirs, it is easy to see why people are freaking out about this talented group.

An explosive musical cocktail loaded with juicy riffs and a huge supply of vocal hooks is what you get, and this spirited take on hard rock shows both charisma and charm. These guys have a great fucking knack for writing killer songs and the production is akin to a wall of sound that pulverizes every single bone in your body – and it feels absolutely wonderful. Strangely, some of the melodies, riffs, and the actual sound of the record remind me a little of “Flesh and Blood” by Whitesnake, but it must be said that Girish and the Chronicles have more in common with Skid Row and early Guns ‘N’ Roses than anything else that I can think of right now on the top of my head. There are several outstanding and memorable tunes to be absorbed and enjoyed here, but a personal favorite of mine is the emotionally charged and beautiful “The Heaven’s Crying”, which is a riveting thing that hits like a motherfucker. A little more variety in places would have been an added bonus, but if groovy hard rock and catchy heavy metal is your thing, make sure you check “Hail to the Heroes” out. Excellent stuff!
