WACKEN Foundation announces new project – Let Women Do The Talking #LWDTT

Wacken Foundation announces new project in cooperation with Bangalore Open Air and the Embassy of the United States of America in New Delhi 

The Wacken Foundation is pleased to announce an exciting new project in India in cooperation with Bangalore Open Air and in association with the Embassy of the United States of America in New Delhi: Let Women Do The Talking. 
 
The purpose of this program is to encourage young female entrepreneurs and artists in India who are looking to pursue a career in the music industry by sharing best practices from successful women in music. In keeping with a commitment towards enhancing the reputation of young female artists who would like to explore their future in the world of music, a unique initiative has been brought forth in an unprecedented move, especially for the Indian sub-continent. 

The U.S. Embassy New Delhi awarded the Wacken Foundation a grant to host a series of workshops, programs, and performances that highlight women in the music industry. The project was conceptualized by Salman U. Syed (Bangalore Open Air) and Miriam Hensel (Wacken Open Air) and will be implemented by Bangalore Open Air with co-curation by Big Bad Wolf. 
 
Salman U. Syed (Founder – Bangalore Open Air) states: “I truly believe this endeavour will make a massive impact on women from all walks of life in India and will also open doors to young women who want to pursue careers in the music industry. I am extremely thankful to my heavy metal family at Wacken who have believed in this wonderful project as much as I do.” 
 
Miriam Hensel (Wacken Open Air – International Affairs) comments: “Whether in the charts, on the stages or in the boardrooms of the big labels and booking agencies, you look for “SHE” in vain. The decisive positions are still largely occupied by men. Ambitions and talents abound, so why are women often left to stew in the “assistant role”? It’s time this issue was put on the table. The preliminary work for this project has shown that you don’t have to look far for competent women. We are very happy to be able to start the project in India and are working to ensure that this is only the beginning of a series of exciting events on this topic.”
 
Thomas Jensen (co-founder Wacken Open Air) adds: “Worldwide promotion of young talent is the key objective of our Wacken Foundation. Therefore, we are very excited about this project and very happy to be working with our friends at Bangalore Open Air and thankful for the support of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. Let Women Do The Talking!” 
 
Joy King (Cultural Affairs Officer, US Embassy, India): “We are excited to promote women’s empowerment through artistic expression and support inclusive economic growth by encouraging women’s participation in India’s growing music industry through this partnership. We look forward to connecting music industry experts from the U.S., Germany, and India. These engagements with industry experts from the U.S. and India will spark interesting conversations on the potential opportunities that women have in the music industry.” 
 
Part of the panel discussions and networking events will be women of high repute from different backgrounds in the music industry from Germany and the United States of America such as Jenny Douglas (Touring Director/Artist Manager at 5B AM), Tracy Vera (President of Metal Blade Records) and Hannah Raphael (Global Tour Director for Live Nation Entertainment) to name just a few. Along with women from the Indian music industry various workshops and live performances will be conducted across the three major Indian cities Delhi (June 24th 2022), Mumbai (June 28th 2022) and Bengaluru (July 2nd 2022). While workshops will take place at established music schools, L.A. based GUNS N’ROSES tribute band Paradise Kitty will perform at Hard Rock Cafés in all respective cities. Let Women Do The Talking will be open to young women who are passionate about music and will bring together rock music enthusiasts from across India.
