The awesome Norwegian prog rockers known as Ring Van Möbius blew me away earlier on this year by means of their brilliant full-length opus entitled "Past the Evening Sun" as well as their exceptionally cool performance at the Close to the Rain festival in Bergen. This wicked 7” EP of theirs containing two highly entertaining tracks was originally released back in 2017, but those of us who were too lazy to grab a hold of a copy then can rejoice in the fact that it will now be made available digitally.

 Bolstered by a warm and organic sound that is unarguably rooted in the 70s and with nods to King Crimson, Uriah Heep, and ELP, Ring Van Möbius take us on a wild and eccentric journey through the long and sprawling composition that is “When the Sea and the Universe Were At One (Or; The Introduction Of The Octopus On Tellus)” followed by the gentle and melancholy “Passage to Nothing”. Both cuts are interesting and atmospheric (not to mention filled with wonderful mellotrons and hammond organs), but essentially quite different, which is why this neat little release is a great addition to the Ring Van Möbius canon; it displays two different sides to the band’s unpredictable and energetic approach to conjuring up otherworldly soundscapes that are both moving and pretty fucking far out there. Great stuff and definitely something that all lovers of progressive music ought to invest in.
