LEAVES’ EYES – Fires in the North EP

A stop-gap release to introduce latest vocalist Elina Siirala into the fold, "Fires in the North" consists of the title track in electric and acoustic forms, plus three 2016 versions of songs from last year’s "King of Kings" album with fresh vocals. The symphonic metal quintet deliver a commercial, mid-tempo offering that contains smooth, angelic melodies from Elina and more of a Therion feel for the chorus with Alexander’s growls providing the perfect contrast.
She can handle the variance between heavier tracks like "Sacred Vow" and the more folk-ish/playful "Swords of Rock" easily, so do not fret Leaves’ Eyes legion, the band will continue forward without missing a beat. Time will tell though if all fans will embrace this significant change in the long term – probably best to take in the material, catch them live and make your determination accordingly.
