13 years after their last album, the German hard rock act Zar returns with "Don’t Wait for Heroes". Pared down to a two-piece as guitarist Tommy Clauss takes on vocals and bass for this effort along with long-time drummer Lars Nippa in tow, you’ll get 13 tracks of 80’s style hard rock – primal, in your face and possessing a little bit of a Dio-edge to the proceedings of conventional melodies and focused hooks.
Showcasing his shredding abilities on "Till the Final Day", other songs have more of an emotional, reflective nature- the acoustic based "Time" especially, proving Zar’s diverse nature to his hard rock platform. Lars’ speedy tom delivery gives the right spark to "Triumph of Faith" – allow Tommy ample opportunity to flex his neo-classical guitar chops. His voice has a Joe Walsh-like tenor, very entertaining when choosing to double up for harmony sake.
An adequate outing, "Don’t Wait for Heroes" is another throwback 80’s-oriented record that many in the hard rock/metal community will treasure.
