SKELETON WOLF – Skeleton Wolf

Given the propensity for cross-pollination in the metal sector these days, it’s no surprise that this infusion brings about some potent bands. Skeleton Wolf deserve to be on the newcomer of the year list through their debut 7 song self-titled album, performing in a blackened thrash style with traditional twin harmony nuances that give off just as much a Priest/Maiden vibe as they do Goatwhore, Amon Amarth, and the almighty Venom.
Between Tim Green’s ripping raspy blackened roars and sick Brett Schlagel guitar work, songs range from mid-tempo head bangers like "At the Sixth Foot" and "She’s Insane" to the heads down fury of opener "Bow Down to Death" – the tones as equally abrasive to maximize the sonic impact. Occasional sprinklings of keyboards heighten the heavy tension, but Skeleton Wolf also understand that by switching up tempos within each track, it keeps the ears on alert for what’s coming next.
Certain to appease the underground hordes, Skeleton Wolf come out of the gate all guns blazing – and this should be interesting to follow over the coming years.
