IN SANITY – Gates of Insanity

A German band straddling the lines between Gothenburg death metal and American modern aspects, In Sanity on their debut album "Gates of Insanity" establish a potent style that while very easy to identify their influences could develop into something guaranteeing longevity. Vocalist Erik Sollmann has that gritty, harsh texture to make "Outburst in Ashes" and the title cut favorites for those into older In Flames or Dark Tranquillity. A lot of the trills and transitions have that familiar Machine Head stomp meets Gothenburg melodies, so for now In Sanity hasn’t really established their own niche as "Pain of Despair" and the up tempo "Bloodline" illustrate familiar bridges and choruses.

I did like a little of the turn on a dime quiet nuances put forth during "Humanity 2.0" and the semi-trance keyboards that blend seamlessly against the Grigoriy Golovanov/ John Turner axe maneuvers for the mood altering "Close Distance". "Gates of Insanity" gives the listener 48 minutes of music, and is a decent start in a genre that needs more young acts to keep the movement forging ahead.
