The well-known black metal duo that is Inquisition has unleashed a brand spanking new album entitled "Obscure Verses for the Multiverse" that will send shivers down your spine, and I think we can agree on that being a positive thing with respect to black metal.
Many of you out there are already familiar with the obscure and haunting music of Inquisition, and personally I think all the trademarks of the band are present on this new album as well. The riffs are catchy and majestic, the music is trance-like and hynotizing at times, the vocals are beyond sick and awesome, and the atmosphere is pitch black and captivating. There`s a strong sense of coherence and a ton of well-arranged ideas on "Obscure Verses for the Multiverse", and there`s a red thread running through the entire album which leaves me feeling that I`ve listened to one long piece of music and taken part in a fascinating musical journey. This is not to say that the songs are alike, because they`re not; nearly all of them stand out on their own in one or more ways, but the whole package just sounds so damn strong and moving, and I guess what I`m trying to say is that this is the kind of album where you really should listen to it from start to finish and try to take it all in.
I won`t really bother guiding you through the individual songs or handing you some track-by-track analysis, beause that would simply be lame with respect to this album. Arghh what the heck, some favorites include "Arrival of Eons After", "Darkness Flows Towards Unknown Horizons", and the brilliant title track. These should be more than enough to convince you that "Obscure Verses for the Multiverse" is a great album. Clearly one of the black metal highlights of 2013 for me on a personal level.
