DEFEATED SANITY – Passages into Deformity

Like any other sane person with an aquired taste for extreme music I need my (almost) daily fix of brutality. Either it is old Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus or some NY breakdowns ala Suffocation, the brutality hunger must be fed once in a while.
Of course the old classics never grow old like "Sermon of Mockery", debut by (now) cult band Pyrexia but the new school of brutal and max slamming DM bands also have something to offer. Defeated Sanity from Germany may not be either old or new school, but they sure as hell have been to school in the beautiful art of technical brutal death metal. Formed back in 1994 but not releasing a proper full-length before 2004, these germans take it all out on their latest opus "Passages into Deformity". This is their fourth full-length and a perfect follow up to 2010´s "Chapters of Repugnance", an album that I enjoyed quite much.
The massive wall of metal that hits you on opener Initiation is just the start of a pounding session to your head for the next 37 minutes. Some may think that brutal death metal like this is just relentless speed, drums that max the BPM limit and riff on riff on riff on riff. Well, they´re right, but its also hidden melodies, intricate harmonies and some vocalic lines that you just dont wake up one morning and start performing in the showers. Give "Passages into Deformity" a couple of spins and you´ll discover a lot of hidden treasures and some skilled musical performances that deserves at least 37 minutes of your time.
