Adagio guitarist Stephan Forte took 3 years developing this set of instrumental songs for “The Shadows Compendium”. Yes he’s a neo-classical shredder, but he also showcases elements of restraint amidst the jaw dropping axe play on these 8 tracks. Joining him for guest accompany solo work is Jeff Loomis, Mattias IA Eklundh, and Glen Drover among others. Material like “Spiritual Bliss” and “Prophecies Of Loki XXI” blends speedy neo-classical progressive metal with a rhythm section who can also hammer home this see saw modern groove/ Nevermore meets Meshuggah-like intensity.
Those into classical music will find incredible piano movements- but overall “The Shadows Compendium” will find its home within the metal axe mavens of the world. Interesting on occasion, hard to find fault with technically, but the mosquito fret flying wears thin if you aren’t in the right mindset.
