Manchester’s very own Luna Marble are set to release this self-titled opus of theirs in early November, and I might as well start out by saying that it is a proper gem that weaves the best parts of Led Zeppelin, the Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, early Fleetwood Mac, Rival Sons, and Pink Floyd at their catchiest together to stunning effect. You know those classic rock albums that look, sound, and feel like an immersive experience? That is exactly what this stellar slice of psychedelic and bluesy hard rock is. The vocal melodies are simply immaculate and paint vivid pictures, and the chemistry between the members of the entity is unbelievably strong.
There are moments that convey mounting anxiety, there are times when the music possesses a slightly wistful aura, and more often than not the band members explode into a frenzy of intense joy and exhilaration, which is merely to illustrate the depth and variety of the record’s content. Tunes such as “All My Love” and “Begging Mercy” manage to sound gigantic, almost impermeable, and wholeheartedly emotive just like some of the greatest tracks from the sixties and seventies do, so that timeless quality is definitely in play throughout. Production-wise one might be tempted to classify this is as perfectly unpolished and vigorous but in the sense of it making you feel that the quartet is standing right in front you in a sweat-soaked and fully packed little venue somewhere and giving it their all.
Luna Marble exudes sheer enthusiasm, unbridled passion, and thoroughly impressive songwriting chops, and it is no wonder that these talented souls have made quite a name for themselves in the rock milieu lately. As with some of the benchmarks of the past, the disc contains all the light and shade that one could ever wish for, and this remarkable ensemble will go a long way in the future – of that there is absolutely no doubt.
