Hailing from Denver, Colorado, and sporting many of the hallmarks associated with emotionally charged alt. rock, this exciting new trio named Analog Amara is an interesting encounter for many different reasons. There can be no doubt that Amanda Hawkins (vocals), Jim Wilcox (drums and bass), and Max Powers (guitars and bass) are skilled musicians, and from a purely musical perspective, the five songs that constitute Slowly Falling Apart succeed in conjuring up an introspective and melancholy mood.

Big-sounding and well-produced in the sense that it packs the right amount of punch while also being dynamic and letting all the subtle little nuances shine through, it is nothing if not well-executed in that department, but its main flaw is that none of the compositions truly stand out, nor do they produce any genuinely big thrills or deeply stimulating moments. There are no decidedly mediocre entries or uneventful moments on the disc either, but the songs never really take flight and feel a little safe and predictable somehow. The material is solid and enjoyable rather than outstanding and utterly moving, if you will. There is undoubtedly a lot of potential on display here not to mention some great vocal melodies, good arrangements, and crunchy riffs, and I will definitely look forward to their next offering as I think these guys will evolve quite a bit as a group and as songwriters. All the right ingredients are there, and they just need to write some gripping songs that tug at the heartstrings the next time around. The fact that there is a genuinely honest and reflective quality to the EP makes this worth a listen, and fans of alt. rock should make a note of this outfit. An intriguing and promising entity in many respects.
