Black Lion Records will release Jordfäst’s upcoming third full-length, Blodsdåd och hor, on CD, vinyl, and digital formats on July 25.
The origins of Jordfäst trace back to the somber forests and murky lakes of Småland, Sweden, where founding members Olof and Elis first met in the early 2000s. While their shared youthful passion for the darker strains of music formed the embryo of what would later become Jordfäst, it was among the vast fields of Skåne in 2017 that the band finally emerged in a tangible form.

Musically rooted in black metal and Scandinavian melancholy, Jordfäst incorporates a wide range of musical elements from both thrash and heavy metal, as well as melodies sprung from classic Scandinavian folk music. As indicated by the name “Jordfäst” (buried, bound to earth), the lyrical themes are set in bygone Scandinavia, unearthing and giving voice to those who walked these lands before us. Rather than offering posthumous glorification of the days of yore, they put the lens on the ever-present concepts of oppression, forlornness, and the ruthless forces of nature.
The debut album, Hädanefter, and the sophomore, Av stoft, were released by Nordvis Produktion in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and garnered praise from fans and critics alike.
Blodsdåd och hor (Bloodshed and whoredom), the third installment in the Jordfäst saga, is their darkest chapter thus far. Bellowed by the winds from the past, it is forged with steel and blood in a furnace built by Scandinavian rock. The lyrical themes and musical compositions bond together, forming a strong and durable alloy. Under the unyielding strokes of hammers, the characteristic Jordfäst soundscape has been hardened, and the melodies have been thoroughly honed by melancholia to deep-cutting perfection.
The first half, “Ett altare av skärvor” (An altar of shards), combines fragments from Völuspá with imagery of violent manipulation and mental torture to explore the everlasting desire in humans to make sense of their existence. The later half, “Dit gudarna trälar är” (Where the gods are thralls), journeys through centuries of Swedish history, shaped by steel and iron industry and defined by relentless warfare.
The successful recording process of Av stoft was repeated during the creation of Blodsdåd och hor, and previous session drummer Jocke Unger has now joined the band permanently. Vocals and all instruments except drums were recorded at Studio Wheelmust by Elis, while drums were recorded by the ingenious Ulf Blomberg at Hoborec. Mixing and mastering duties were once again entrusted to the masterful hands of William Blackmon at The Overlook.
Jocke Svensson (Birdflesh, Skogen, ex-Entrails) steps in as guest vocalist on tracks 5 and 8.
Josua Markskog created the cover art, while Tobias Ankarbranth shot the band photos, later edited by Elling Deehr Johannessen.
