CRONE TYE – interview

Interview with Mik Crone of CRONE TYE

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

We are a two piece Industrial Sleaze 80s throwback band. I play guitar and program all the music and Tye writes the lyrics and performers them. Our latest single is called No Guts, No Glamour and is influenced by the darker side of Hollywood in the 80s.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

The hardest part is a result of the easiest part. Everyone can put out music today on streaming platforms, because of this we are oversaturated so actually getting people to know about you is harder. That’s why websites like yours are great. So I would say getting exposure is the hardest part.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

Tye and myself have played in bands most of our teenage and adult lives so when we decided to get together for this project we wanted to try something different. I have always had an interest in industrial music and I knew Tye’s voice would fit perfectly. Once the music was recorded and Tye came back with the lyrics I knew we had something original. We sent the recording to a few friends and the feedback was great so we decided to put it out.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

No Guts, No Glamour is influenced by the horror genre and the cult movies that stick in your head. If you are a fan of Dario Argento, David Lynch, Abel Ferrera then you may like it. We were saying the other day that Ty West’s Maxxxine movie would be the perfect visual accompaniment to our track. If you are a fan of bands like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry but also like Skid Row and Motley Crue then I think it’s for you.

How does a song typically come together for you?

I write a guitar riff or two then program a drum track. I then record the rhythm tracks and layer synths and samples over the top. Once completed I send a stereo mix to Tye who writes his vocal parts. We then meet up and record them.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

Punk, hard rock, industrial, gothic, with elements of metalcore and late 80s hair metal.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

The sense of knowing about a sound and style of music that is familiar yet new. The ability to be able to visualise your own movie and style in your head where our music is the soundtrack. Songs that you relate to that are part of your alternative scene.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

America would be great, Japan. Of course the UK and Europe.

This is primarily a recording project so we aren’t ready to tour just yet. Never say never though. You can catch Tye live with his band INHERITOR and he has an album coming out with his other band Demoralised soon.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

The ability to record at home using our own software means the possibilities are endless. This project is new so we will see how the direction of the band changes over the next few singles. We are writing and recording as we go along.

How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?

You can expect more singles and hopefully some great visuals in the form of music videos. Maybe a live performance.. who knows.
