CHRISTBANE – Psalm I

Bestial and relentlessly aggressive black metal madness is occasionally what the mood calls for and when that happens it is nice to know that the abhorrent musical entity known as Christbane is out there and ready to serve one’s needs, right? I got turned on to the band via Regimental Records who mailed me a copy of their self-titled album when it was released on CD last year, and what I love about these twisted souls and their approach to the most pitch-black of genres is that they infuse with their songs with a raw, hyper-intense punk rock vibe that makes for a really interesting listening experience. The four songs that constitute Psalm I are short, concise, and in your face with absolutely no letup in sight, and they are simply as dirty and vicious as they are brutal and energetic. Perhaps more importantly, they are incredibly catchy and consist of memorable riffs that weave their sickening spell underneath the ugly, crust-like vocals in an excellent manner. Clocking in at a mere ten minutes in total is not a problem as Christbane manage to get the message across, and when I look at their Bandcamp profile where it states “SATANIC FUCKING PUNKS CUNT” in capital letters, I think to myself that they are on to something as that description seems to go hand in hand with their vile tunes and lyrics.
