DEATHCULT – Seven Are They

DEATHCULT – Seven Are They

Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing we all need and what the of the mood of this week calls for – a new output containing exclusive material by what is unarguably one of the very best and most sinister-sounding bands out there, namely Deathcult.

With its evocative artwork and utterly intriguing song titles, Seven Are They looks, sounds, and feels very complete and fulfilling, and it wastes absolutely none of its sixteen minutes on anything superfluous. The strength and morbid beauty of this foul and sulphurous gem is that it delivers a proper blow to the skull, makes your thoughts wander down forbidden paths and satanic corridors, and leaves you hungry and begging for more. Waves of intense dread, deep-seated malice, and eerily occult vibes wash over the listener as the caustic and twisted riffs work their wicked magic, and one inevitably ends up realizing that there is no turning back and that the only way forward is to hit the “Repeat” button as soon as the EP reaches its cryptic denouement. Everything here is well-executed, and every rotten individual involved in this most loathsome and contagious slab of unfiltered black metal misanthropy has brought their A game.

We often tend to use words such as grim, harsh, and evil when the talk or discussion revolves around black metal, but very few acts actually embody and manifest those terms and phrases to such a convincing extent as Deathcult do. Make sure you grab a copy of either the vinyl or the cassette version once this profane and addictive slice of hellish music by Norway’s finest comes out.
