CULTUM INTERITUM – Sacrum Funeral

What we have here is a six-track album by the Polish horde named Cultum Interitum that dabbles in murky and unpleasant black metal with a charcoal-stained mood and a grimy vibe to it. The sound is so frigging pitch-black that I am absolutely positive they recorded this sinister musical curse in a cave somewhere. Filled with disgust and quite chaotic without being devoid of direction, purpose, or structure, its content possesses an unholy and eerie aura that feels downright unearthly and disquieting, but it lacks the ability to suck you in and completely overwhelm you, meaning the disc is not as effectively compelling and full of malevolent terror as I had hoped it would be. Sacrum Funeral certainly has its strong points and merits, and it does maintain a relentlessly menacing and ominous atmosphere throughout, but the Godz Ov War discography contains more mesmerizing and muscular entries than this one. Having said that, you really must give the closing song titled ‘M’ a serious listen as it sounds unbelievably hellish and suffocating and stands out on the disc.
